Though this method is strong, hackers find loopholes to get access to your accounts. To stop such criminal activities, two-step verification method has been introduced. As of now, two-step verification is the strongest way to prevent someone from hack your account.
As the name implies, this has 2 step process. The first step is that you need to enter your password. To get full access, you need to enter the OTP that you’ll be receiving a text message to your phone.
WhatsApp doesn’t have a password entry feature. When you verify your phone number on WhatsApp through OTP, this will be the first step. To add an extra layer of security, you need to set up a PIN number. This can prevent hackers from accessing your WhatsApp account. Here, setting up a PIN number is the two-step verification process.
How to Enable whatsapp two step verification
It is very easy to activate 2-step verification on WhatsApp. You need to follow the simple steps given below for better understanding.
Open your WhatsApp on your Smartphone. (Android or iOS)
Tap on 3 vertical dots on the top right corner of WhatsApp.
Tap on Settings.
Then tap on Account.

On the next screen, tap the Enable button.
Now, you need to set a 6-digit PIN that will be asked whenever you install WhatsApp for verifying the current mobile number. Enter PIN that you can remember easily. It would be better if you make a note of it.
Then tap Next
On the next screen, once again enter your 6-digit PIN for confirmation.
Then you will be given an option to enter your email address. Do not skip this step.
If you forget your PIN but want to reset your it, entering a valid email address can help you to safeguard your account. Though WhatsApp gives you an option to skip this step, We recommend that you shouldn’t skip this step.
Touch the Next button.
On the next screen, enter the same email address again for confirming your email with WhatsApp.
Now, you have enabled whatsapp two step verification which can be confirmed on the next screen.
Tap on Done.
Note: If you receive an email regarding PIN reset for WhatsApp unless you’ve directly requested, do not click on the link given in the email.
When you have successfully enabled two-step verification, you will be moved to the next screen as shown below:
On this screen, you’ll be given three options. They are:
Change email address
Alternatively, you can always go to Settings > Account > Two-step verification for entering into this screen.
If you feel that you don’t need a PIN number for verifying your WhatsApp number, you can disable this option by tapping Disable. Then tap Disable on the pop-up screen.
If you want to change your PIN number, tap Change PIN. Enter your desired PIN and confirm it again.
If you would like to change the previous email address, tap Change email address and then add your preferred email id. Confirm it once again.
Things to be Noted After Enabling Two-Step Verification on WhatsApp
– When you enabled two-step verification, you will not be allowed to reverify your WhatsApp number without your PIN number within 7 days of the last login.
– If you forget your PIN and email address or didn’t provide an email address, you are not allowed to reverify WhatsApp within 7 days of the last login.
– Only after 7 days, you will be allowed to verify your WhatsApp number without your PIN. But you will be losing all pending messages once verified.
– When you try to reverify after 30 days, your account will be deleted and a new account will be created. There is no need of PIN number here.
